Products to Help You Succeed

Books, Software & Courses I Recommend

Throughout the articles on this site, I’ve provided suggestions for a huge variety of products I love. Most of these are products I’ve used. A select few I haven’t, but I’ve researched them and they’ve come highly recommended by other writers.

This page is called “book writing resources” because it’s a singular collection where you can find links to all of the products I’ve recommended from my personal experience. Keep in mind, I’m only recommending products that I truly believe in. This means that they’re products I use regularly or books I’ve read and can’t wait to recommend.

Here’s my important disclosure: some of the links down below are affiliate links. This means if you choose to purchase through one of them, I make a small commission at no additional cost to you. Again, I’m only using affiliate links for the products that I personally use. As there are absolutely no ads anywhere on this site, this is the only way I’m making money from Writing a Book Café. In turn, this means I can devote more and more time to the site, growing it, and helping my readers in bigger and better ways.

Books I Recommend

Create Your Writer Platform

In his book, Writer’s Digest author, Chuck Sambuchino, takes you through the process of creating your writer’s platform. This book is designed to help you increase  your visibility and sell more books, while launching your successful writer’s career.

I’m recommending this book after hearing Chuck speak at Toronto Writing Workshop in 2016 and purchasing his book for myself. It’s a terrific source of information and one you’ll often hear me quoting from in various articles on this website.

Price: $7.69 Kindle or $14.19 paperback

Write and Revise for Publication

In author, Jack Smith’s, guide (also from Writer’s Digest), you’ll learn exactly how to write and edit a book, intended for traditional publication. This is a fairly lengthy book that covers everything from the broad (plot, setting, structure) to the specific (juxtaposition, word repetition, expository openings and more).

This was the first book I ever read on writing and publishing a novel. I got it a few years ago as a gift from my close friend, Andrew, for my birthday. For anyone who likes to know all the technical details of how to do something before actually doing it, this is the book for you.

Price: $11.12 Kindle or $17.30 paperback

The 4 Hour Workweek

The 4 Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss was a life changer for me. Although it took me years to start implementing the strategies within, it put my mind on the path of finding something better than the regular 9-5, years ago.

In this book you’ll learn how to create a passive income stream, largely using the strategies and techniques you’re already good at – writing. Learn how to outsource your life and put a lot of the technological hassle on autopilot. Be your own boss and work whenever you want, for however long you want. Join the New Rich.

small blog BIG INCOME

Freelancer, Carol Tice, is the owner of Make a Living Writing and the Freelance Writer’s Den. I had the good fortune of learning about her websites during my own unfortunate stint freelancing for a terrible content mill. It was largely thanks to Carol that I and many others got out of this writer’s trap.

Carol’s book explains how the do’s and don’t of how to go about starting a niche for-profit blog and making it successful. Her strategies are perfect for the small blogger who doesn’t have a large subscriber base (yet), or someone who wants to turn their writing into a business. I highly recommend this book and the Freelance Writer’s Den.

Will It Fly?

Pat Flynn is the owner of Smart Passive Income and calls himself ‘The Crash Test Dummy of Online Business’ for good reason. He makes over $100,000 a month through a variety of mediums, but mostly through passive affiliate marketing.

If you are a self-published author then Pay Flynn and his book will help teach you how you can enhance your website and boost your book sales (or anything else you may wish to sell online).

For the entrepreneurial writer, Pay Flynn’s book is a must-have.

Price: $2.30 Kindle or $13.25 paperback.

Avada is a premium theme for WordPress and is notable for being the #1 selling WordPress theme of all time. I can attest to why – it’s extremely flexible, giving you total control over the design of your website, including things like colours, fonts, sliders and more. It’s done using a drop n’ drag method of building, so no coding is needed.

What kind of websites can it build?

Well, take a look around this one. Writing a Book Café is built on Avada. I started off building this website never having used Avada before and have fallen in love with it since.
